1. The Centre had invited eminent personalities to the University to speak on Swami Vivekananda. The following are the names of some.

Dr. Azhagar Ramanujam, Secretary, Brain Trust, Arutperunjothi Nagar, Dr. Visveswaran, Retired Principal, Sri Ramakrishna Mission Vidhyalaya College of Education, Dr.Markandan, Former Vice-Chancellor, Gandhigram Rural Institute, Deemed University, Dindigul, Mr. Valarkavi Radhakrishnan, Mani Hr.Sec.School, Coimbatore, Mr. Marabin Maindan Muthiah, Tamil Ilakkia Peravai,Badri Narayanan, N.G.M College, Pollachi, Ms.Lakshmi Kumari, Director & Chairperson, Vivekananda Kendra, Sringapuram, Dr.Michel Lenaghan, Professor in Social Science, Miami-Dade Community College, Florida, US and Dr.G.Ramathilagam, Avinashilingam Deemed University.

The lectures included the following topics:

“Why Education?”, “Are Women Equal?”, “Hardware and Software of the Mind.”, “Youth for Development”, “What makes a Good Citizen?”, “What God Means?”, “Karma yoga”, “Swami Vivekananda’s Message”, “The Mission of Swami Vivekananda”.

Students from our University, NSS trainees, Refresher Course and Orientation Course participants were the beneficiaries.

2. A number of seminars have been arranged by the centre. The detailed year wise report is given below.

24-10-2001

A Seminar was conducted on "Swami Vivekananda as A Social Reformer" to the University teachers. 16 teachers presented papers on the following topics.

"Swami Vivekananda's message to Youth", "Swami Vivekananda's ideas on Religious Reform", "Swami Vivekananda's Ideas of Character building Education", "Swami Vivekananda's views on women's Role in Nation Building".

10-01-2002 & 11-01-2002

A Two days seminar for School teachers in commemoration of Swami Vivekananda's birthday was held. The topic was "The Relevance of Swami Vivekananda's Message in the New Millennium". 16 papers were presented on the topics

"Swami Vivekananda's message to the Youth", "Swami Vivekananda's views on Women", "Swami Vivekananda's views on Peace and National Solidarity", "Swami Vivekananda's ideas on Education" and plenary lectures were given to our University students.

11-03-2002

On the "Life and Mission of Swami Vivekananda" - A Seminar on the topics was conducted for teachers from various colleges. 4 Papers were presented on the topics :

"Swamiji and Youth Development", "Swami Vivekananda's Views on Science","Dissemination of the message Swami Vivekananda" -Role of Swami Vivekanandar Pani Mandram, "Life and Mission of Swami Vivekananda".

29-10-2002

A Seminar on Swami Vivekananda and Value Education was held for Primary School teachers and B.Ed Students. In the afternoon session an workshop was conducted on "The Propagation of Swami Vivekananda's ideals through Stories".

4-03-2003 and 7-03-2003

Seminar on "Swami Vivekananda and his Mission" was conducted for our University students on the following sub-themes:

"Swami Vivekananda's Contribution in taking Indian Spirituality to the Western World", "Swami Vivekananda''s concept of Religion and Spirituality", "Swami Vivekananda's message to the Youth", "Swami Vivekananda's contribution to National Awakening"

A Seminar was conducted for the students of our University on the topic "Swami Vivekananda’s ideals" and papers were presented on the following topics:

"Swami Vivekananda and Spirituality", "Swami Vivekananda -Science and Technology", "Swami Vivekananda and Physical Education", Swami Vivekananda's message to Youth"

28-10-2004

A Seminar was conducted on the topic "The Mission of Swami Vivekananda" to our University students 38 papers were presented on the sub topics Vivekananda and Spiritual renaissance, Vivekananda and Education, Vivekananda's message to the youth and Vivekananda and women empowerment.

3. Projects

The following are the titles of the projects completed by the Centre.
Inculcating Spiritual Values of Swami Vivekananda among Children by Dr.Jaya Poorani, Department of Human Development.
Swami Vivekananda - The Poet by Dr.Shyamala Shivanandam, Department of English.
Collection of Poems on Swami Vivekananda by Dr.Lalitha, Department of Tamil.
Propagation of Swami Vivekananda's ideals and messages through Stories by Mrs.R.Vaijayanthi and Mrs.V.Hemanalini, Department of Education.
Awareness on ideals of Swami Vivekananda on Children with Visual impairment by Dr.Premavathy Vijayan and Mrs. Malini Lionel, Department of Special Education.
Motivating Children, Youth and Women towards practices of selected messages on Swami Vivekananda by Dr.Parvathy Easwaran, Department and FSMD.

4. Every year, right from the inception of the Centre till date the B.Ed Students are trained to disseminate the ideals and teachings of Swami Vivekananda among school children. B.Ed Trainees during their teaching practice disseminate Swamiji’s messages during Moral instruction hours to the school children.

5. Competitions

With the sole aim of motivating the student community to develop interest in Swami Vivekananda’s ideals, the Centre conducted Essay and Elocution competitions for the High School and Higher Secondary School students of Coimbatore District on 29th October, 2001 and 22nd October, 2002. Also, an elocution competition was conducted for our University students on 11th March, 2003.
Thus the Centre for Studies of Swami Vivekananda is carrying out its multifarious activities to disseminate Swamiji’s ideals among the masses.
