Rights and Responsibilities
of the Reader

In order to safeguard the common interests of all the
readers and to provide a pleasant, safe and comfortable
study etc the readers should be aware of their rights
and responsibilities.
Rights of the reader
- Library collection are acquired to support research,
teaching and learning and readers are entitled to have
access to them.
- Readers may use the study space provided during the
library hours.
- Readers may borrow materials except those designated for
consultation only, when the circulation service counter
is open.
- Readers may contact library staff whenever they are in
need of assistance.
- Photocopies may be taken subject to the provision of the
current copyright legislation.
- Readers can view their own borrowers-record in the
library catalogue.
- Suggestions, comments and complaints can be made
regarding the services of the library.
 Responsibilities of the reader
- Reader should treat other library users and library
staff with courtesy and respect.
- Silence should be observed in the library.
- Library cards should not be lent out to any other
person; loss of cards should be notified immediately to
the circulation counter.
- Readers are responsible for all books borrowed in their
cards; books should be returned on or before the due
date.
- Readers will be charged with fines for overdue loans.
- Readers are requested to show their library cards
whenever requested by staff member.
- All library materials should be treated with care;
willful damage of library equipment and material may
lead to disciplinary action.
- Readers may not remove any items from the library, which
have not been issued to them.
- Readers will be responsible for mutilation found on
return of any material loaned to them; they are advised
to check and report any mutilation found in the material
before borrowing.
- Readers are responsible for recalls at all times.
- Tables and chairs may not be moved to other locations.
- No seats may be reserved by placing materials on the
desks or chairs.
- Photocopying of library materials should be made in
compliance with the copyright ordinance.
- Readers should leave the library promptly at closing
time.
