The candidates will be selected for admission to the -Research Programme based on their academic performance and by means of a personal interview.

The candidates selected for admission to the M.Phill / Ph.D. Programmes in the University Departments shall be required to submit their original Transfer Certificate / Conduct Certificate (issued by the Institution in which last studied), Statement of Marks and Provisional / Degree Certificates of PG and M,Phil. Degree Courses.

The certificate once surrendered will not be returned to the candidates till the completion of the research programme. Hence, the candidate are advised to retain with them a maximum number of attested Xerox copies of the certificates. No correspondence will be entertained on such request.

1.Eligibility for Admission

A. Full time

Candidates for the degree of doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in any Faculty of this institute, shall be required to have qualified for the Master's Degree with not less than 55 per cent marks or B+ Grade in the concerned / allied discipline and the M.Phil. Degree in  the concerned / allied faculty of this Institute of any other University recognised by the Syndicate of this Institute as equivalent thereto, subject to such conditions as may be prescribed therefor. 

Candidates, other than those holding the M.Phil. Degree in any Faculty shall be required to register and undergo the prescribed course of study under Part I and II of the M.Phil. Degree Programme and to qualify themselves by passing the examinations. No candidate will, normally, be permitted to reappear, for the qualifying written examinations on more than one occasion, or resubmit the M.Phill thesis more than once.

The candidate with Master Degree in the concerned discipline or allied discipline with not less than 55% marks or equivalent grade are eligible for Ph.D. degree programme on condition to undergo part I M.Phil. theory papers along with full time/part time scholars and only after successfully completing the part I theory papers they are eligible to submit their synopsis and later thesis for Ph.D course. 

B. Part time

Teachers with Master's Degree qualification who are working in this Institute or in any other Institute, college or University are also eligible to register under a Supervisor to work for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy as part time candidates. These candidates are also required to undergo the prescribed courses of study for two years after registration, to qualify them selves by passing the Part I & II of the M.Phil. Degree requirement.

Those who are employed on a time-scale in University, Government Department or Research and other Institutions may be treated on par with. Teachers  in teaching institutions for the purpose of carrying out research work, as part time candidates, under a Supervisor, provided they satisfy the minimum requirement of a Master's Degree & M.Phil. in the subject concerned.

Research workers and Technical Assistants who are working in time- bound-Research schemes in the Institute will also be treated on par with teachers for the purpose of carrying out research work towards the Ph.D. Degree.

Registration

A Candidate applying for Registration shall furnish the following information:

  1. Her qualification, previous study and Research.

  2. The broad field in which she intends to conduct research will normally be one, which is related to the field of specialization chosen for her postgraduate or M.Phil. Degree.

  3. She should submit a comprehensive "Research Design" of her thesis along with the application form.

Duration

A. Full time Ph.D.

For the Full time candidates with M.Phil. or equivalent degree, the minimum    period of research work for the award of Doctor of Philosophy, shall be Two years  after registration.

B. Part time Ph.D.

For the Part time candidates for the Ph.D. degree the minimum period of research work shall be three years for those who possess the M.Phil. or equivalent degree.  

For the part time candidate for the Ph.D. degree the minimum period of research work shall be five years for those who possess the Master's Degree or equivalent degree.

Such of those candidates who do not possess M.Phil. Degree registering for the full time / part time Ph.D. programme, shall be required to pass both Parts I and II of the M.Phil. Programme within a period of two years from the date of registration for the Ph.D. programme.

They shall appear for the M.Phil. Part I written examination at the end  of the first summer and submit the M.Phil. thesis at the end of the second  summer. For such candidates attendance for three months during summer is compulsory for the first year.

Candidates who possess the M.Phil. or equivalent degree or who have successfully completed the M.Phil. Course or successfully completing part I theory papers of M.Phil courses in the subject concerned are required to put in attendance for 90 days in a year, the days being fixed according to the convenience of Guide- Supervisor and the candidate. The Guide - Supervisor shall maintain the attendance and submit the same to the Controller of Examinations on April 1st every year, through the Head of the Department.

Submission of Synopsis

Each candidate shall be required to choose a Research problem under a Guide and submit the Dissertation incorporating the results of his / her investigation carried out under the guidance of her Supervisor.  

Not less than three months before the submission of the thesis, the candidate shall submit to the University through her Supervisor, four copies of the synopsis of the thesis proposed to be submitted by her.  

Candidate shold have atleast two publications of their own researches in reputed Journals at the time of submitting their synopsis.

Submission of Thesis

Not less than three months and not later than six months after the  submission of the synopsis and after the expiry of the minimum period of research prescribed, a candidate may submit, with her application for the Ph.D. Degree, four copies of the thesis embodying the results of the research carried out by her. A Ph.D. thesis shall not exceed 250 pages including tables, bibliography, plates, illustrations and appendices.

Candidates may also include, as supplementary papers to their thesis, printed copies of their contribution to the knowledge of their subject or of any cognate branch of science they might have published in journals and periodicals.

No candidate shall ordinarily be granted extension of time to submit her thesis more than two years after the prescribed minimum period of research work.

The candidates shall pay a penalty of Rs.250/- per six months to get extension of time for submission of thesis.
