Lab of Support Institution/Unit/Services

Research both fundamental and applied is an integral component of the departmental activities. The department has two nutrition laboratories and an animal house. The nutrition laboratory is equipped with colorimeters, fluorimeters, ovens, incubators, water bath shaker, centrifuges, muffle furnaces, pH meter, chromatographic chambers, bomb calorimeter and Benedicts Roth apparatus.

The available equipment for advanced research include

• UV-VIS spectrophotometer (Beckman,USA)
• Kjeltek nitrogen analyzer (Teccator , Sweden)
• High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC-Shimadzu, Japan)
• Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (Perkin Elmer , Switzerland)
• Viscometer (Brookefield , USA)
   

ADVANCED RESEARCH LABORATORY

An effort is being made to establish a centralized Instrumentation laboratory for the faculty of Home Science. The department also extends consultancy services from time to time to Government /non governmental agencies and private entrepreneurs.

The animal laboratory breeds albino rats (Wistar strain) for experimental purposes. This animal laboratory also serves as a center for inter- disciplinary experimentation for inter / intra University research projects.
