Literature is the reflection of society, its
culture, values and traditions through the medium
of language. While Literature embodies the
cognitive aspects, language translates these into
expressions and actions. A course in language is
basic to the understanding of life and its
meaning
Genesis of the Department
The Department of English was started in 1957
offering General English at the Undergraduate
level. Branch XII English Literature was
introduced in 1996 with a thrust on formal,
historical, and cultural contexts of English
Literature.
Objectives
- To develop language skills for effective
communication skills
- To enable students to get a comprehensive idea of
English Literature, its forms
- To understand human values depicted in Literature
and their application to life
- To develop creative skills
