Paper is the most important thing which is used for various purposes. Paper may be used as a medium of communication, advertising, printing. etc.,. It may be used as books, magazines, journals, calendars, wrappers and as packaging material. Though we talk of a paperless society by using electronic gadgets like computers and cellphones, have we really reduced the consumption of paper? The statistics show that the consumption of paper has increased 400% in the last 40 years. Nearly 4 billion trees or 35% of trees cut are used for making paper, cardboard and other paper-related materials.

Most of us can guess that wood pulp is the source for making paper. But other materials like cloth rags, jute, hemp, bagasse and recycled paper can also be used for making paper.

In Tamilnadu, TNPL paper mill depends mainly upon bagasse for manufacturing paper. All over the world 38% of paper comes from recycled paper.

We should increase the use of recycled paper to protect our environment and save mother earth. Yes, we cannot do without paper but we can make do easily with recycled paper!
