Syndicate Members

The Syndicate of the Institute shall be the chief executive body of the Institute and shall consist of the following members:

  • The Vice Chancellor (Chair Person - Ex Officio)

  • The Senior most Dean (Ex - Officio)

  • Two representatives nominated by the President of the Avinashilingam Education Trust for a term of 3 Years.

  • One Dean, one Professor, One Reader and One Lecturer from amongst the Deans (other than the Senior most Dean), Professors, Readers and Lecturers respectively in rotation according to seniority to be nominated by the Chancellor for a term of two years provided there is representation to the different faculties to the extent possible.

  • One representative of the UGC. for a term of three years.

  • Two Educationists nominated by the Government of Tamil Nadu for a period of three years.

  • The Director of Collegiate Education of Tamil Nadu or his nominee not below the rank of Deputy Director.

  • Two women of learning and administrative ability to be nominated by the Chancellor for a term of three years out of a panel of four names submitted by the Vice-Chancellor.

  • The Director of the Avinashilingam Education Trust Institutions.

  • Registrar - Non-member Secretary.

Academic Council

The Academic Council shall be the principal academic authority of the Institute and shall subject to the Memorandum of Associations and the rules, bye-laws, have the control and the general regulation of teaching and Examination within the Institute and be responsible for the maintenance of the standard and shall exercise such other powers and perform such other duties as may be prescribed.

The Academic Council shall consist of the following persons.

Ex-Officio Members

  • The Vice Chancellor (Chair Person)

  • All the members of the Syndicate

  • Deans of Faculties

  • Professors/Heads of the Departments of the Institute and the staff next to the Dean in the Departments where Dean is the Head of the Department.

  • The Director of Collegiate Education of Tamil Nadu or his nominee.

Other Members

Four Readers and Four Lectures of the Institute, one in Home Science, One in Science, One in Humanities and One in Education by rotation in order of seniority to be nominated by the Chancellor.

  • Two Professors of academic distinction from other institutions nominated by the Chancellor on the recommendations of the Vice-Chancellor.

  • Six members nominated by the Chancellor from a panel of twelve names recommended by the Vice-Chancellor to represent different fields with reference to the objectives of the Institute.

  • Two educationist nominated by the Chancellor from a panel of four names recommended by the Avinashilingam Education Trust.

Finance Committee

The Finance Committee shall consist of the following members, namely,

  • The Vice-Chancellor (Chair person)

  • Two representatives of the State Government in Finance and Education Departments.

  • One representative of the General Body of the Institute to be nominated by the General Body.

  • One person representing the University Grants Commission.

  • One Dean or Professor nominated by the Chancellor from among the members of the Syndicate.

  • The Registrar

  • The Finance Officer - Non - member Secretary.

The finance Committee shall, in the manner prescribed by the rules, prepare the financial estimate of the Institute and place it before the Syndicate.  The Syndicate shall then scrutinize the said estimate and pass it.

The Finance Committee shall meet at least four times a year.  At least three members of the committee shall form the quorum.

Planning Board

The Planning Board of the Institute shall advise generally on the planning and development of the Institute and keep under review the standard of education and research in the Institute. The planning Board shall consist of the following members.

  • The Vice-Chancellor (Chair person)

  • Not more than four persons of high academic standing nominated by the Vice-Chancellor for such period as the may determine.

  • A nominee of the UGC.

  • Two representatives of the General Body of the Institute.

  • The Registrar - Non - member Secretary.

The planning Board shall advice the Syndicate and the Academic Council on any matter which pertains to the development of the Institute.

Faculties

The Institute shall have faculties of Home Science, Sciences, Humanities and Education, and such other faculties as may be prescribed under the rules.

Each faculty shall comprise such departments of teaching as may be prescribed by the rules.

The constitution and functions of the faculties shall be as prescribed by the regulations.

Faculties shall have power to:

  • Consider the report on any matter referred to it by the Syndicate and the Academic Council, or the Vice-Chancellor.

  • Give guidelines in regard to courses of study and examinations prescribed by the Institute and to lay such regulations before the Academic Council.

  • Remit any matter to a Board of Studies within the purview of the faculty for consideration and report.

  • Consider any report or recommendation of any Board of Studies.

Board of Studies

There shall be a Board of Studies for every discipline attached to each department of teaching.  The constitution and powers of the Boards of Studies shall be such as may be prescribed by the rules.

There may however, be separate Boards of Studies in such branches of knowledge as the Syndicate may decide, to deal with matters relating to Post-Graduate studies.  Each Board shall consist of 3 to 5 members of whom at least two shall be from outside the Institute.
